Over four years ago, this medium, ElombahNews raised alarm over the rate of decay witnessed in the state after former Governor Peter Obi handed over the rudder to his successor, Willie Maduabuchukwu Obiano.

Events in the last few years have, not only proven the alarm correct but, painted a grim picture of the sorry state of the State under the present leadership.

Hence, in collaboration with our correspondent, Odumodu Gbulagu, ElombahNews began the series “Anambra Is In Ruins!” exactly one month ago, September 17.

ElombahNews Begins “Anambra Is In Ruins!” Series

Anambra State Governor Obiano in various states of stupor, a regular feature

The series was designed to create more awareness on the poor policies and governance style of the Obiano administration and the need to hold it accountable.

Yesterday, October 16, was another eye opener to Anambra citizens when fire from a tanker claimed two lives, razed houses and shops and rendered many homeless and hopeless.

Ironically, three hours into the fire, the Anambra State fire service was nowhere to be found until Delta State fire service came to the rescue.

Below is the reaction of Anambrarians over the fire incident on Facebook:

Odumodu Gbulagu

Do you remember this post?

I made it barely one week ago and as always Governor Willie Obiano’s e-rats descended on me with all forms of invectives and missiles.

Failure of Anambra state fire service to put off a raging inferno that was on for almost six hours, and the Delta state fire service crossing the bridge and coming all the way from Asaba to tackle the fire disaster has vindicated me.

How can a responsible and responsive government comfortably watch the properties of its citizens go up in flames without even an effort to salvage the situation?

The truth is that Willie Obiano has plunged Anambra state into deep rot that will take decades to clear.

With the anger in Anambra today, I don’t see Governor Willie Obiano escaping mass beating soonest.

May the souls of the victims of the Onitsha inferno Rest In Peace.

See copied below the post by Odumodu Gbulagu on October 7:

Obiano: What happened to the fire office land at Okpoko?

Since Chief Willie Obiano became Governor, he has been using different fronts to take the land of the state, the prominent front being the owner of a filling station at Awka. The time of reckoning shall come.

As we speak, Obiano has, as usual, taken the vast land belonging to Anambra State Fire Service at Okpoko, leaving the service with just a fraction of the old land that no longer has parking space for their fire equipment.

Obiano must return our land in due time.

Anambra is in ruins!

Obitex Di Ok

Thank you Delta State Fire Service for coming to the aid of ndi Anambra yesterday

Let not play politics with yesterday fire incident but the fact still remains that Anambra State is in a mess

A state like Anambra have no active fire service station. Ndi Anambra, where did we get it all wrong??

Look out how fire destroyed lives and properties worth millions of tax payers yesterday and no fire service on ground for over five hours beginning from when the incident occurred

Anyi na agbago agbago ka anyi na agbada agbada?

Are we going forward or backward?

This Willie Obiano led government they see us like mumu

Ndi Anambra,

We need a governor that will rewrite the wrongs of this administration

Because Anambrians deserves better

Odumodu Gbulagu

Obiano’s boots can buy one fire fighting vehicles!

Have your seen him lately? He dresses in a manner unbecoming of an elder and a Governor. Shamelessly, he wears childishly designers’ outfits. Have you noticed that for APGA functions, he wears specially APGA designed shoes? For Independence celebration, he wears special designed shoes reflecting Nigerian colours. Over 2000 different shoes must have been designed for him. Within him, he will be thinking that it would be a delight for Nigerians to see a fashion-conscious Governor when in actual facts, he is being childish.

The confounding fact is that those shoes he wears are specially designed for him by Louis Vuitton.

When you see the boots he wore during handover of security vehicles to security agents, you may be tempted to dismiss them for blue-coloured rain boots, No, they are much higher than what you think.

Analysing his shoes:

It has shock-absorbing foam
Multi-durometer rubber outsoles for stability
Split grain leather overlays
Swin fin heel catches
Blood-borne pathogen resistant membrane
Underneath ortholite foam
Core-tex inner sleeves

He can wear those boots even in hottest weather without feeling heat. He can wear it for days even while sleeping without feeling discomfort.

Designed specifically for Gov. Willie Obiano by Stuart Weitzman, the boots cost $27,000 (Twenty-Seven Thousand Dollars) which is enough to buy one fire-fighting truck.

Stories about our Governor sounds unbelievable, but they are true.

When we were shouting about the cost of his champagnes, did you not doubt until lately?

Anambra is in ruins!

Elochukwu Nicholas Ohagi

The only fire response team that finally arrived, came all the way from Asaba. Onitsha fire service was no where to be seen.

May God punish all those praising Obiano on social media. Disaster is better than Obiano.

I join Odumodu Gbulagu to say that Anambra is in ruins.

Don’t just save Anambra from Obiano, save her too from APGA. Enough of fooling the people with Odumegwu Ojukwu’s picture.

Just take one look at this young man, one of the victims of Onitsha fire disaster and you immediately know what Anambra is like under Willie Obiano!

David Okenwa

Am greatly perplexed, on the level of nonchalance from the government to the people..

Am disturbed,..

The fire outbreak in Onitsha today for 3 hours without been mitigated was a great eye opener to the frivolity the recklessness and the jamboree dance of the Anambra state government towards protecting lives and property..

This indeed #Anambracrys.

Obijekwu Barth Ifediora

The Pain is avoidable but “Willie is Walking” Slogan only exist on Media.

Onitsha Fire Service is Dead.
Okpoko Fire Service is not Functioning
Awada Fire Service Doesn’t exist anymore.
Their Emergency Numbers are always on Call Divert.

Even Delta State Fire service couldn’t make their way, as a result of Bad Roads throughout the State.

ONITSHA: All businesses should Stop paying any tax, levy or revenue to the Anambra state government until Willie OBIANO resigns or is impeached

Fred Maduekwe

Since last night, I have been searching to see in the news temporal drastic measures taken by my state government with regards to the fire incident in Onitsha yesterday, which has become an unfortunate ritual in Upper Iweka from time to time. Setting up panel of inquiry is not enough

1. To those who are close to Governor Willie Obiano who might be reading this, tell him as a matter of urgent to use his executive powers to suspend movement of heavy duty trucks and tankers in, within and out of the state between the hours of 6am to 7pm.

2. The management team of Anambra state fire service should be suspended immediately while waiting for the final submission of the panel he constituted. More so, he should chop for replacement of the present management with new hands who has never been part of the fire agency in the state.

3. Part of the new measures to be adopted in every major market in Onitsha and other parts of Anambra should have a fire service station who will also have responsibility of conducting fire fighting skills for the market union members periodically. Afa m bu Fred Maduekwe.

I pray God console all those who lost their loved ones and means of livelihood in the fire incident. Amen.

Praise Ukachukwu

This is fire that started around 1 pm but till now no intervention by the government agencies and the fire is streaming to contiguous streets – Zik Avenue.

Shame on the gangster governor called Obiano, even nature is widening his ‘nyash’ for the world to see.

Please Obiano should apologize to Onitsha residents over this unfortunate incident – that’s if he is sober presently – and a support plan should be immediately rolled out to those whose lives work have been wiped out by this regrettable situation.

We have been lamenting on the gross rot taking over the state but his e-rats have taken over the social media to ‘unsuccessfully’ defend him .

A whole city like Onitsha has no functional fire control station and only one rescue tank from Asaba Delta State.

Look at how a manageable situation has grown monstrous and is still eating out peoples source of livelihood.

#AnambraInRuins

Obijekwu Barth Ifediora

Peter OBi provides all these during his tenure. Obiano should tell us where they kept all these equipment.

This is a street in Onitsha that can not easily be plied by pedestrians how much more vehicles
This is Governor Obiano patching tarred roads with concrete as if tar anc cements mixes easily

INTRODUCTION:
(1)(a) On November 14, 2018, a police officer from the Office of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Abuja Command, CP Bala Ciroma, served on Barrister Emeka Ugwuonye (hereinafter “Emeka”) summons, charging him with armed robbery and murder, offences the police knew that Emeka could not have committed and absolutely did not commit. The charges were purely an effort to use the prosecutorial power of the police to silence Emeka, who was in the process of exposing a 15 billion naira (annual revenue) of illegal prison and racketeering and other illegal operations run by Mr. Bala Chiroma and some other police officers in Abuja alone.

(b) Upon serving Emeka with the summons, the police officer said to him: “You better go back to the US”. Mr. Ciroma expected Emeka to leave Nigeria upon being served with the summons. Hence he did not arrest Emeka for murder even after serving him the court processes that charged him with murder and armed robbery. But when Emeka remained defiant and refused to leave Nigeria as expected, he was arrested on November 26, 2018 on those charges.

(c) After sixteen days in police cell, was arraigned before Justice ———— of Court 30, FCT High Court, Gude. And he has been remanded in Kuje prison since then.

THE MAIN STORY:
(2) In October 2012, after the killing of 4 Uniport students in Aluu, Rivers State, Emeka set up a a group known as “UNIPORT 4” to fight against jungle justice in Nigeria. In February 2013, UNIPORT 4 was renamed The Due Process Advocates (DPA). From 2013 through 2015, DPA was run and managed as a public interest arm of ECULAW, which is the law firm headed by Emeka.

(3) In 2015, Emeka opened a branch of DPA operations in Nigeria and he expanded the activities of DPA to make real change in Nigeria in the area of administration of justice. He expanded the focus of DPA from the prevention of jungle or mob justice to prevention of other forms of injustice such as police brutality, domestic violence and human trafficking, etc. Membership of DPA rose from 33,000 by end of 2015 to 66,000 by June of 2016. Subsequently, DPA was registered as a corporation both in the United States and Nigeria.

(4) On May 25, 2016, Emeka traveled back to the US for what he had planned to be a 2 months summer vacation. On or around June 11, 2016, while in the US, Emeka began to receive inbox messages on Facebook and WhatsApp from various members of DPA informing him about a woman based in Abuja who had gone missing for a whole month. They all wanted DPA to help look for the woman or find what happened to her. The woman’s name was Charity Aiyedegbon, with an alias “Chacha de Hammer”. Those who called or inboxed Emeka directed him to the woman’s two Facebook profiles. Also, those who contacted Emeka told him that Chacha had been having a long standing dispute with her husband, David Aiyedegbon (David).

(5) Emeka never heard of these names (David and Chacha) before June 11, 2016. He had no idea about their existence before that date.

(6) As a criminal defense lawyer and investigator, Emeka started his investigation into the case by carefully examining Chacha’s two Facebook profiles. Immediately, he began to put a pattern to Chacha’s life, as he tried to reconstruct events around her within the last days she was seen. Emeka noticed that Chach’s social media activity ended on May 9, 2016, as that was the last day she made a status update on her Facebook profiles. That was also the day she was said to have been last seen.

(7) Note that even before contacting Emeka, friends of Chacha had been looking for her since she went missing. The police already arrested Chacha’s friend, one man known as JO or John, and detained him for over two weeks. So, when Emeka got involve in the investigation, he already had a 4-week period of police supposed investigation on the case. The police failed to make progress other than to arrest and torture John, who apparently knew nothing about what happened to Chacha. Also, within that period, the police arrested four lawyers from the law firm that represented Chacha in her cases against David. Emeka was worried that the police seemed to have turned blind eye to other theories of what happened and focused only on Chacha’s known male friends and her lawyers. And it was Chacha’s estranged husband (David) that was supplying the names of the men to the police and dictating who should be arrested and who should not. Hence, the police arrested Chacha’s lawyers just because David didn’t like them. Emeka was shocked to know that it was David that was funding the police investigation and he was calling the shots for the police. David was practically directing the investigation.

(8)) Before her disappearance, Chacha wrote twelve pieces of the account of her marriage with David, disclosing in shocking details the problems in their marriage, the serial infidelity, the attempts on her life by David, the six cases she filed in court against David and how she moved out of their marital home and lived apart for two years before the date she disappeared. In her writings, Chacha called for help. She believed that David was after her life.

(9) To lead the DPA investigation in the case, Emeka cut short his vacation in the US and returned to Nigeria on June 19, 2016. Emeka made some posts on DPA wall addressing DPA members. In the post, he disclosed the progress of DPA investigation. He indicated that he believed that Chacha was not hiding, as the David and the police were trying to make people believe. He theorized that Chacha was probably dead or in captivity. He called for information on any unexplained death around the time and place as Chacha was last seen. He urged members of DPA and Chacha’s friends to expand their search to include the possibility that Chacha was dead.

(10) Information began to come into DPA about an unidentified body of a woman found in Bwari, in Abuja, around the time Chacha went missing. On 23rd of June 2016, somebody sent to Emeka, through an email, a picture obtained from the Bwari Council Sanitation Authority. The pictures were the headless and decapitated body of a woman. Without a head it was impossible to compare the picture with the pictures of Chacha as on her Facebook profiles. However, Emeka was able to forward the pictures to Chacha’s friends who confirmed the body was probably Chacha’s. Emeka published the findings on DPA Facebook handle.

(11) Surprisingly, the police fought to suppress DPA’s investigation and findings. The first move the police made was to arrest Emeka Ugwuonye on July 1, 2016 for the offense of concealment. What did Emeka conceal? The police claimed that he concealed the pictures of the body of the woman he made Facebook posts on. But on July 2, 2016, the police realized that it was actually the police in Bwari that took those pictures and handed them over to the Sanitation authority, from where it was obtained lawfully by DPA. So, Emeka could not have concealed from the police pictures that were taken by the police. So, they let him go. But it was clear that the police were interested in covering up the truth in the Chacha case.

(12) Believing that the police were looking in the wrong direction by pursuing Chacha’s male friends, Emeka and DPA were determined to ensure that any of those men arrested would be represented by Counsel. So, when Kelvin, another friend of Chacha, was arrested, Emeka sent a lawyer to secure his release and that was successful. At this point, Emeka did not know of the person called Paul Chukwujekwu Ezeugwu (Jekwu), another male friend of Chacha. Jekwu was first mentioned to the hearing of Emeka in mid July 2016 when he reported to the police station as they directed him. He overheard the police talking of a 24-year old male friend of Chacha.

(13) Another clear sign that the police were not interested in the truth of the case was that the police refused to conduct any tests on the remains of the woman even after DPA had located (with the help of the Sanitation Authority) the unmarked grave in the public cemetery. Instead, the police and David falsely claimed that they conducted tests and the result showed it was not Chacha’s body. They threatened to sue Emeka for providing false information to the police. What was the false information? The false information was the claim that the body was Chacha’s body. So, the police and David denied the body for nearly two years. But DPA continued to fight for justice for Chacha.

(14) On August 3, 2016, the case was taken over by the IG Monitoring Unit (one of the police commands directly under the Inspector General of the Police). DPA complained to the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the Unit that the police are refusing to investigate evidence presented to them, which would reveal the truth. The Deputy Commissioner assured DPA that the police would investigate the matter fully and properly. Based on this assurance, DPA suspended all postings on the case, while waiting for the outcome of police investigation.

(15) To prevent any investigation by the IG Monitoring Unit, the file was transfered back to the Abuja Command where David had more influence. The police at the command realized that they could not really deny the body in the pictures. So they changed gear. They decided to accept it was Chacha’s body, only if they could find a suitable person to pin Chacha’s death on. As they didn’t have such person immediately, everywhere remained quiet for nearly two years.

(16) In or around May 2018, Jekwu was arrested in Benin City and taken to Abuja on Chacha’s case. About 3 or 4 weeks after, Jekwu and another man (one Emmanuel Adogah) were paraded and were said to have confessed to the murder of Chacha. DPA nearly accepted the news of their confession as the end of the case. But when Emeka saw the video of the parade, he noticed some glaring abnormalities. Example: The suspects had been in detention for weeks and made confessions and were paraded without any of them having a lawyer. Secondly, Jekwu had a massive fresh wound on his forehead, evidence of injury or torture. So, naturally, DPA questioned the voluntariness of the confession. And considering the comments of Police Commissioner Bello and David during the parade, DPA cruticized the police for incompetence.

(17) Based on DPA’s continued criticism of the police for the poor handling of the Chacha case, the Abuja Command arrested Emeka on July 6, 2018 and detained him at Abattoir, the same place Jekwu and Emmanuel Adogah were detained. It was on July 6, 2018 at the Abattoir detention center that Emeka met Jekwu and Adogah for first time in his life.

(18) Emeka saw his detention in Abattoir to interview Jekwu and Adogah about any involvement in the disappearance of Chacha, and they adamantly maintained that they did not commit the crime and that they were forced to confess through extreme torture. According to Adogah, he never met Chacha in his life and he knew what she looked like only when the police asked him to hold her picture during the time he and Jekwu were paraded by the police.

(19) Emeka spent July 6 to July 10, 2018 in Abattoir. During his stay in Abattoir, he saw and heard about the extreme atrocities and crimes against humanity committed by the police in Abattoir. He was totally devastated to discover the activities of men of Nigerian police, which clearly qualified for crimes against humanity in terms of gravity, scale and systemic or institutionalized nature of these atrocities. Emeka could not have believed if he did not witness it.

(20) Immediately, DPA began to seek for ways to show the world what has been going on in Abattoir, how the police ran an illegal prison and used it as a cruel animal farm, where the animals are human beings.

(21) After his release from custody, DPA began to make a documentary film to expose the police activities in Abattoir. On, October 15, 2018, DPA released the two-minutes introduction of the documentary. On October 16, 2018, the Abuja Command arrested Emeka again and detained him at Garki station for two days. They charged him to court on October 18, 2018. He was again granted bail.

(22) Determined to totally silence Emeka and DPA, Police Commissioner Bala Ciroma charged Emeka along with Jekwu and Adogah with armed robbery and murder of Chacha.

(23) The police calculated that with a murder charge some High Court judges will be too timid or too scared to grant bail. And true to their calculation, the judge in the case denied bail, even without reading the proof of evidence.

(24) Nigerian police fabricated murder charge against a critic as a way of shutting him up. This is actually a very routine and common practice among the Abuja command. DPA estimates that over half of the armed robbery, kidnapping and murder cases in Abuja command are fabricated either to cover up the truth or silence someone about to expose them.

(25) Due to the continued harassment and persecution of Emeka, he has suffered incalculable loses, including disruption of his family life, disruption and destruction of his businesses, unlawful detention, physical assault, damage to reputation, etc.

OUR PRAYERS ARE:
(a) That there be full and proper investigation into Chacha’s case to be done by new set of police officer not connected to Mr. Bala Ciroma.

(b) That the murder and armed robbery charges against Emeka Ugwuonye be withdrawn or dismissed.

(c) That in the alternative, the office of the Attorney-General or Director of Public Prosecution should take over the prosecution in relation to Chacha’s case.

(d) That an independent investigation be conducted into the activities of the police in respect of the Abattoir detention center.

(e) That adequate compensation be paid to Emeka Ugwuonye by the police for gross abuse of his rights.

Signed: Due Process Advocates, DPA

Slumping exports sent Germany’s economy into reverse in the second quarter, with prospects of an early recovery slim as its manufacturers struggle at the sharp end of a global slowdown amplified by tariff conflicts and fallout from Brexit.

Overall output fell 0.1% quarter-on-quarter, data showed on Wednesday and, with pressure growing for the government to provide stimulus through fiscal reforms, the economy minister said action was needed to prevent a second consecutive quarter of contraction that would tip the country into recession.

The global slowdown, reinforced by Chinese industrial output expanding at its lowest rates in 17 years in July, has broadly impacted the euro zone, where corresponding data showed second quarter growth halved to 0.2%.

But Germany’s traditionally export-reliant economy – Europe’s largest – has been particularly vulnerable, amid signs that the boost it has received from a sustained period of surging domestic demand is waning.

“Today’s GDP report definitely marks the end of a golden decade for the German economy,” said ING analyst Carsten Brzeski.

“Trade conflicts, global uncertainty and the struggling automotive sector have finally brought (it)… down on its knee.”

German Chancellor, Angela Merkel

On a calendar-adjusted basis, annual growth slowed to 0.4% from 0.9% in the first quarter, the Federal Statistics Office data showed, and for 2019 overall Berlin expects growth to drop to just 0.5% from last year’s 1.5%.

The economy ministry called the outlook subdued, noting that Britain’s scheduled exit from the EU on Oct. 31 looked likely to be a disorderly one, while Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said Wednesday’s data was a wake-up call.

“We are in a phase of economic weakness but not yet in recession. We can avoid that if we take the right measures,” Altmaier told mass-market daily Bild.

His ministry said impetus was unlikely to come from the industrial sector, whose BDI association – in an usual move -joined a growing chorus of voices urging the government to kick-start growth by ditching its balanced budget rule and finance more public investments through new debt.

Despite Wednesday’s headline quarterly figure matching expectations, markets also took fright, with the yield on Germany’s benchmark 10-year government bond hitting a record low of -0.624% DE10YT=RJR.

“The bottom line is that the German economy is teetering on the edge of recession,” Andrew Kenningham from Capital Economics said, noting that exporters were facing an even bigger potential hit if a no-deal Brexit materialised.

DOMESTIC SAFETY NET?

The statistics office said that net trade slowed second quarter economic activity as exports recorded a stronger quarter-on-quarter decrease than imports.

Construction was also a drag, after the sector pushed up overall growth in the first three months due to an unusually mild winter.

In a conclusion echoed by the economy ministry and Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann, the office said domestic demand remained robust.

That has become an important growth driver for Germany in recent years as consumers benefit from record-high employment, inflation-busting pay hikes and low borrowing costs.

But UniCredit analyst Andreas Rees suggested the positive impact of those factors was limited.

“For a year now, the German economy has been only crawling forward,” Rees said, with the many uncertainties facing exporters presaging more pain over the rest of the year.

ING’s Brzeski said a national debate about easing fiscal policy to provide stimulus – a focus for international criticism of the government’s economic management since the peak of the financial crisis – would get more heated.

In a guest article in Wednesday’s edition of business daily Handelsblatt, BDI association managing director Joachim Lang said the balanced budget that the government has stuck to rigidly since 2014 “should be called into question in an economically fragile situation”.

A government official told Reuters last week that Berlin was considering issuing new debt to finance a costly climate protection package.

Chancellor Angela Merkel had on Tuesday poured cold water on the calls for more fiscal stimulus, saying there was no need “right now” for such a move.

Merkel also pointed to the already agreed removal of the Soli income tax surcharge for most employees from 2021, a relief worth some 11 billion euros per year that is likely to support domestic demand and with it overall growth.

Banks in the country have successfully linked 38 million accounts with the Bank Verification Numbers, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN].

As part of its financial inclusion drive, the CBN said it was targeting 100 million BVNs in the next five years.

According to the CBN, “In order to ease the constraint poor identification has on the availability of credit to prospective banking customers, the CBN will support an aggressive enrolment of prospective banking customers in the informal sector onto the BVN system.

The current enrolment of 38 million unique banking customers will be expanded to 100 million over the next five years.

“Ongoing partnership with the National Identity Management Commission will also enable integration between the two databases.

“This effort will improve the comfort level on banks in providing services to an expanded customer base. It will also aid in the development of a credit profile for banking customers which will assist in improving access to credit for creditworthy borrowers by banks.”

Jane Njoki and her grandmother Jane Njoki Nderitu were inseparable. Hardly would a day pass before one could call or visit the other.

On February 27, however, Nderitu failed to hear from her granddaughter, a small business operator and a bar owner, only to be attracted by sounds of gunshots and screams from Suswa Anti-Stock Theft Unit camp in Subukia.

The 69-year-old womans heart skipped a beat, as she instinctively tried to reach Njoki. Njokis mobile phone was, however, off.

Word quickly went round Thuthu village in Weseges ward that Cosmas Biwott, 27, and a constable, had sprayed Njoki, 26, with at least 20 bullets, killing her and their five-year-old daughter Shantel Nyambura.

Biwott later committed suicide.

Nderitu was overwhelmed. She could not believe her granddaughter, with whom she shared a name, had died. She tried to access the bodies at the camp, unsuccessfully, since it is a protected area.

“The death of my granddaughter was so painful. When I heard the gun shots, I thought it was cattle theft suspects, only to receive shocking news of her death. This was such a brutal act,” said Nderitu, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Earlier, Njoki had informed her grandmother that the officer was hostile and used to pick quarrels with her over petty issues before attacking her.

Efforts to resolve the issues did not bear fruit.

“I advised my granddaughter to quit her marriage, as I did not see it last because the officer seemed not ready to settle. More often, she suffered injuries from his brutal attacks,” she said.

Njoki’s death took a toll on the family. She was the sole breadwinner. The family is now living in abject poverty.

She was survived by a 10-year-old daughter Bridgit Wambui, who is now depending on the aged Nderitu to do income generating activities to feed the family.

Mother also sickly

Njoki’s mother Sarah Wambui is also sickly, and depends on Nderitu for financial support.

For Nderitu, death snatched away a disciplined, jovial and responsible woman, who used to take care of their financial welfare.

“I wish death struck me, and not my granddaughter, who used to work to help the family financially. Death is so cruel,” said the Nderitu.

The woman said Njoki also used to pay school fees for her younger siblings John Nderitu and Jackline Waithera, both students at St Michaels Secondary School.

The two have been missing classes following accumulated fee balance.

“Life is so tough on us after death of my daughter, who used to buy for us food and support her younger siblings, who are now out of school,” said Ms Wambui.

A devastated Wambui said Biwott had threatened to kill Njoki several times. The two had been married for seven months.

Wambui said Njoki moved out of his house and rented her own when the quarrels became unbearable.

“The officer threatened to kill me and my daughter two weeks before committing the crime,” she said.

“They would part ways. However, they later got back together without my knowledge,” recalled Wambui.

She described her daughter as jovial and loving, and who worked extra hard to improve their livelihoods.

“I feel sad having lost my daughter at such a prime age when she was also expected to raise her children,” she said.

Former Minister of Information and one of the national leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Tony Momoh, has said 2023 presidency will be a tough struggle among the regions as none will be begged to come and take power.

He also said adhering to the rotational policy between the North and South would be difficult.

He said in an interview with Daily Independent, “Power is not served a la carte; you struggle to acquire power. There is no way anybody can beg anybody or any region to come and take power. So, it is a struggle and any part of the country can struggle to occupy any position in the country.

Winning election is decided by votes, so if some people sit down and think people will say ‘come and take these positions in 2023, then they don’t know what democracy is all about.

“When PDP zoned positions, a lot of people from the North and South contested. I remembered when the PDP presidency ticket was zoned to the South, some people in the North contested.

“Even look at the APC now which has zoned the position of Senate President to the North- East but some people from other regions are protesting, saying that they have a right to occupy the position.

“So, if anybody thinks that the Presidency will be zoned to the South in 2023 and then the North will just sit down and watch, then they have a lot of shocks coming for them.

“We can still find another person from another zone who may contest under another political party and win. So, nobody should think that they can just sit down at home, not work hard and then power will just be handed over to them like that.

“Although people think that with adherence to the rotational policy between the North and South there won’t be any political crisis, it will not be that smooth. It has never been that smooth.

“When they said the PDP presidential ticket should come to the South- West to pacify the people in the region, did other people from other regions not contest? We had people like the late Alex Ekwueme from the South- East and the late Abubakar Rimi from the North who contested against Olusegun Obasanjo.

“I believe in 2023, a lot of people will come out to contest for Presidency and nobody will stop them. So, people must work hard to get power and the prayer for winning election is answered by votes; the volume of votes you can produce.”

Women in military are like ordinary women too, they have blood flowing through their veins and have needs which they long to see satiated.

They go through many ordeals like ordinary people and are susceptible to pains too; they however, handle their pain better than most people out there would. Most men believe it is going out of bounds when you approach a military woman for advanced friendship.

They blow things out of proportion by thinking these women could beat them up any time or set them up peradventure they misbehave, it should however be noted, that dating a woman in the military is the same as dating any other woman.

What depicts how far that friendship would go is the manner of approach and the ability to present oneself with an aura of dignity and gentility.

Below are some of the things you don’t know about women in the military:

Emotional

Women in the military have been trained to be brave and courageous. They are by profession fighters who have been toughened by various phases of trainings. However, the trainings they have gone through haven’t shielded them from the trauma accompanied by love. They have cravings too and desire fulfillment; they want to date and experience love in a beautiful way. The only problem is most men often feel intimidated by the personalities and avoid them.

They Embrace Motherhood

While so many people share an unreal belief about military women being wrecks when it comes to marital bliss, some of them are married and they embrace motherhood with a shocking interest. They are after all normal and have all it takes to raise a family. They put everything they have into use to ensure their children live normal lives. They could be stern and instill discipline in their wards at tender ages. They are regular moms who strive hard to perform their motherly obligations.

Supportive

Most people believe military women are mean and therefore avoid them. They could be excellent friends when people get to know them more. Same way they could be tough and intimidating, they could also be fierce when it comes to fighting for their friends and loved ones.

Responsibilities

It is misconstrued when people think military women’s problems have been completely solved due to the financial security that comes with their appointment. Nevertheless, they have stacks of responsibilities that go beyond sorting with money. They get weighed down by the thoughts of the risks of their jobs, instability often brought by deployment, affairs that concern their children and spouses. With all these, they tend to vent and exhale; like everyone else. But people get sentimental and believe they are naturally aggressive.

Sexual Favors

Not every woman in the military sleeps around. Many people believe most women in the military are loose and have traded sexual favors for work favors. It is the general perception that there is a major somewhere rocking their boats. Some women in military have dignity and have been able to maintain healthy non-sexual relationships with their superiors thereby maintaining stability in their career.

Enduring Scrutiny

Unknown to the general public, women in military also fight different battles in their chosen profession. The military is still dominated by testosterone while the women struggle to fit in. Failure is always expected when they are given tasks as a result of gender discrimination. It is disheartening for them to know the public also scrutinize them by seeing them as a different entity.

Attacking The Mole

Women in military have had their fair share of failures in marriages just like the successes have been discussed. The fundamental problem has still not been addressed. Seeing the women in uniform is a turn on for some men. They appreciate their bravery and get infatuated. At the long run, broken homes and relationships aren’t inevitable. The whole blame is mostly put on the women oblivious to the fact that the military indoctrination didn’t break the relationship. Are men ready to give up their job security and pack up when the women get deployed? [Naijweb]

The George Uboh Whistleblowers Network [GUWN] has uncovered how WEMA Bank practically stole Planet One, a hotel in Lagos, through a dubious takeover.

GUWN disclosed this in a letter by its Chairman, Dr. George Uboh, addressed to ElombahNews on Tuesday.

The story started when whistleblowers at WEMA Bank furnished Dr. Uboh damaging information on WEMA Bank regarding a hardworking and innovative customer, Planet One.

The Chief Executive of the hospitality outfit, Shaka Momoh’s dream and desires to run a state-of-the-art hospitality business was shattered when WEMA Bank pulled the rug off his feet.

Uboh, in the letter, lamented that while banks in Nigeria are busy lending trillions of Naira to collusive bank MDs, Oligarchs, etc., who borrow without collateral and have refused to service loans hence the intervention of AMCON in those cases, Planet One suffered the victim.

It could be recalled that Dr. Uboh coined the phrase “banking sector mafia” after he traced N586 Billion Naira of federal government funds trapped in banks in 27 days during the pendency of a federal government engagement.

The engagement was scuttled by same banks knowing that Uboh stands to trace trillion of Naira in “stolen/trapped funds”, a situation that would have left the banks insolvent.

Planet One Hotel

Planet One is a certain popular and swanky hotel and entertainment spot called Planet One in Maryland, Lagos.

The hotel once hosted Missy Elliot, The game and numerous artists local and foreign.

WEMA Bank, Planet One’s bank into which daily intakes were deposited approached Planet One’s Chief Executive for a N500 million loan for improvement and betterment.

After the loan was given to Planet One, a mysterious fire engulfed a section of the hotel. This should have been a signal of the “mafia style” tactics WEMA was about to engage in, according to Uboh.

Writing further, he stated:

“Due to the fire mishap, Planet One could not service the loan timely. WEMA over-bloated the interest by over N260 million.

“After Planet one caught WEMA, WEMA admitted at a round table meeting, then adjusted the loan to approximately N750 million.

“Golden Tulip, the global brand, approached Planet One with a deal to pay N800 million first tranche to pay off the debt, pay another N800 million second tranche and another N800 million third tranche.

“When Planet One wrote WEMA on the offer from Golden Tulip and its intention to pay off the N750 million, WEMA changed gears asserting that the loan is over N1 billion.

“This development understandably scared Golden Tulip off, because it portrayed Planet One as not practicing “full disclosure”, one of the basic tenets of doing business.

“Other potential buyers were scared off by WEMA as well and WEMA thereafter dragged Planet One to court.

“While the case was and still in court, WEMA Bank sold Planet One to someone else (letter of sale in possession of GUWN).

“This is the height of fraud laced with absolute impunity.

“Why would WEMA bank drag Planet one to court then turn around and sell same asset, the subject matter of the case at bar?

“Is WEMA Bank that corrupt, that pompous, that moronic to commit fraud on the court knowing the legal ramification?” he asked.

Consequently, Dr. Uboh wrote a letter to the Managing Director of WEMA Bank Plc., Mr. Ademola Adebise [letter attached below].

The letter was titled “Re: Fraudulent Sale of Planet One Entertainment & Hotels to Mr. Richard Odumenya while the matter is Sub Judice; Fraudulent Manipulation and Over-Bloating of loan in the tune of over N300M; Stripping and Looting of Planet One’s Assets.”

It contained a 14-day notice to WEMA Bank informing the bank of GUWN’s intention to report the matter to law enforcement agencies and approach the court to compel them to prosecute should they refuse to do so.

GUWN, per the 14-day ultimatum to WEMA, which expires on February 11, 2019, has concluded plans to notify the court of the fraud, notify the CBN which supervises the banks, among other civil and criminal petitions.

Following that, the bank will have a field day in the court.

See the GUWN letter to WEMA Bank below dated Monday, January 28, 2019:

The Managing Director, WEMA Bank Plc

Attn: Mr. Ademola Adebise

Dear Sir,

Re: Fraudulent Sale of Planet One Entertainment & Hotels to Mr. Richard Odumenya while the matter is Sub Judice; Fraudulent Manipulation and Over-Bloating of loan in the tune of over N300M; Stripping and Looting of Planet One’s Assets

14-Day Notice: Our Intention to Report the matter to law Enforcement Agencies and Approach the Court to Compel them to Prosecute should they refuse to Prosecute

About us:

Our undersigned chairman Dr. George Uboh is the foremost whistleblower and anti-corruption crusader in Nigeria. In that capacity, he blew the whistle against the EFCC (starting 2013) for failing to remit N1.993 Trillion Naira to the FGN which led in part to the sack of the former chairman in 2015.

He blew the whistle against a Federal Judge (starting 2014) for awarding 15% of a $3.1 billion judgment to contractors who were not parties to the suit-judicial fraud-which led in part to his sack in 2017.

He blew the whistle against a former minister of finance in 2018 which led to her resignation in 2018.

He blew the whistle on the ministry of transportation-aviation in its dealings regarding “Nigeria Air” in 2018. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) thereafter suspended the Nigeria Air deal in 2018.

He blew the whistle on former executive secretary TETFund in 2018 which led to his sack in 2019.

George Uboh Whistleblowers Network (GUWN) was set up to expose corruption, fight for people who have suffered injustice, fight for whistleblowers suffering adverse treatment, address matters of public interest, inter alia.

Instant Case:

Our whistleblowers at WEMA Bank Plc have furnished us overwhelming and irrefutable evidence showing clearly and convincingly that your bank has sold Planet One Entertainment & Hotels to Mr. Richard Odumenya while the hotel is under the receivership and management of Kunle Ogunba & Associates, and while the matter is in court.

Same whistleblowers have furnished us evidence of fraudulent manipulations and over-bloating of Planet One’s loan interest in the tune of over N300 Million, including the culpability of Diya Fatimilehin & Co in its voodoo valuations of Planet One which is reminiscence of its culpability in the case we have against the EFCC, to wit:

“That you Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, conspired with Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde and Diya Fatimilehin & Co (Estate Surveyors), to divert the sum of N875 Million vide GT Bank cheque No. 10608377 of 29/1/2007, being part of the proceeds from the disposal of assets forfeited by Tafa Balogun in 2006.”

The 23 criminal charges our organization preferred against Ribadu were used to discredit Ribadu from running as gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa. Video can be watched on youtube under George Uboh.

After analyzing the evidence, the following is our conclusion:

The appointment of Kunle Ogunba & associates as receiver-manager, the subsequent stripping and looting and intimidation of Planet one’s staff by Kunle Ogunba and associates, the fraudulent and contradicting voodoo valuations of Planet One by Diya Fatimilehen & Co, the fraudulent over-bloating of planet One’s loan, inter alia, are all pretextual acts with one goal in mind:

Put fear into Planet One owner and staff, keep them busy in court, drain them financially by freezing bank accounts, then sell Planet One unilaterally without the knowledge of the court and Planet One staff.

This inhumane plan has worked. But thanks to whistleblowers at WEMA Bank Plc for handing us this treasure trove of evidence.

As you may already know, the whistleblower policy drafted by the undersigned empowers us to furnish the information in our possession to security agencies to act upon and pay us upon successful recovery, in addition to ensuring that the injustices meted out to Planet One, its owner and staff are corrected through a fair and equitable compensation process.

In that regard, you have Fourteen (14) days to contact us in order to put in process a transparent, fair and equitable process of compensation to the aggrieved who are not yet aware of our involvement.

Failure to do so would result to us doing the needful, to wit: putting our evidence in the public domain through press releases as a case study on how banks loan funds to businessmen then turn around to ruin them and takeover their business in a collusive and conspiratorial manner, reporting the matter to court as amicus curiae (An amicus curiae is someone who is not a party to a case and may or may not have been solicited by a party and who assists a court by offering information), asking the court to take judicial notice (Judicial Notice is A doctrine which enables a judge to accept a fact without the need of a party to prove it through evidence) of the fraud you have perpetrated, reporting the matter to security agencies to prosecute the culprits involved, inter alia.

While we await your response, we remain,

Yours in anti-corruption and whistleblowing services,

Dr. George Uboh

Chairman
